Windows 10: “We’ve got an update for you” – not responding

This is the second time this has happened to me, so I figure I’d document the solution because it takes me 30 minutes each time to resolve without hard resetting the computer.

Problem: on Windows 10, I would get a “We’ve got an update for you” message that asks you to update your OS or re-schedule, but the user cannot select any option as the window does not respond. Windows also disables the mouse interaction with all other windows.

  • Press: Windows Key + X
  • Press “A” or select “Windows Powershell (Admin)”
  • In the console, type:

taskkill /IM "MusNotificationUx.exe" /F

The non-responsive message should go away.
